Mangaluru : To curb road accidents, enforce effective traffic management, and ensure smooth vehicle movement across the city, the Mangaluru City Police have initiated a special traffic enforcement drive. As part of these ongoing efforts against parking violations, police have registered 7,490 cases since June, collecting a total fine of ₹3,07,600. This crackdown also includes 1,080 cases specifically registered for footpath parking violations.
In addition to parking enforcement, a targeted drive was conducted between August 4 and August 12 to tackle the misuse of defective and fake number plates, which are often exploited to commit criminal acts. During this period, police booked 258 vehicles for displaying defective number plates and registered cases against 74 vehicles operating without any number plates at all. A combined total of 332 cases were logged during the week-long campaign, resulting in ₹3,01,000 collected in fines.
Stressing the importance of compliance, Police Commissioner Sudheer Kumar Reddy stated that displaying clear, legal number plates in accordance with prescribed standards is a fundamental responsibility of every vehicle owner. He urged motorists to strictly install mandatory High-Security Registration Plates (HSRP) and adhere strictly to all traffic rules to ensure public safety on the roads.
