Mangaluru : The Surathkal Police have arrested an individual under the stringent POCSO (Protection of Children from Sexual Offences) Act for allegedly subjecting a minor boy to sexual harassment. The arrested accused has been identified as Abdul Ismail, a resident of Chokkabettu. This incident has caused significant concern in the local community.
The accused, Abdul Ismail, operates a shop named “Honey Fashion and General Store” in Chokkabettu market. According to the complaint filed by the boy’s mother with the Surathkal Police, the incident occurred when her 11-year-old son visited Ismail’s shop to buy chocolates. The complaint states that Ismail allegedly tied the boy’s hands and legs, confined him in a room within the shop, and subjected him to sexual harassment.
Following the grave allegations, the Surathkal Police immediately took action. An investigation team led by Police Inspector Pramod Kumar registered a case against the accused. The charges were filed under Sections 4 and 6 of the POCSO Act, along with Sections 351(2) and 117(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) (the successor to the IPC sections related to specific crimes). The police successfully apprehended the accused, Abdul Ismail, and subsequently presented him before the court for judicial proceedings.
