Mangaluru : The Bajpe police in Mangaluru have successfully uncovered a case of illegal cattle transportation involving a luxury Toyota Fortuner. Acting on a tip-off during the early hours of March 18 around 4:45 AM, a police team led by PSI Latha, under the guidance of ACP Srikanth and PI Balakrishna, conducted a raid at the Sastavu area in Badaga Yedapadavu village. During the operation, the officials found four cattle being transported inside the SUV in a cruel and violent manner, with their legs tied together.
The police have seized assets worth a total of ₹8.42 lakh, which includes the four cattle, the Fortuner vehicle, a lethal weapon (talwar), and an iron rod used by the accused. Two individuals, identified as Nisar and Mohammed Jamaluddin, were arrested at the scene and subsequently produced before the court. The authorities have highlighted the unusual use of a high-end luxury vehicle to evade suspicion during the illegal transit of livestock.
While two suspects are in custody, the police revealed that several other accomplices managed to flee the spot during the raid. A special team has been formed to track down the absconding individuals and bring them to justice. The police department has urged the public to remain vigilant and immediately report any information regarding illegal cattle slaughter or transportation to the nearest station to help curb such activities in the region.
