Mangaluru : In a vibrant display of India’s rich cultural diversity, a specially decorated Air India Express Boeing 737-8 aircraft landed at Mangaluru International Airport on Monday. Part of the airline’s “Tails of India” initiative, this Boeing 737-8 (VT-BXW) has been designated as a “Flying Canvas,” aimed at introducing the country’s varied artistic traditions to a global audience. The initiative seeks to transform a standard journey into a moving cultural experience by blending traditional art forms with modern aviation aesthetics.
The aircraft operated on the Mangaluru-Mumbai route under the command of Captain Leonardo Christopher and Co-pilot Leon Vaz. Featuring the intricate artistic designs of renowned artist Oseen Siva, this aircraft holds the distinction of being India’s first plane to be completely adorned with such artwork. According to airport spokespersons, the design is not just static art but is crafted to create a dynamic visual effect that can be captured in high-speed videos, showcasing the beauty of motion and art combined.
Air India Express has consistently used the tail sections of its fleet to display the folk arts of various Indian states, but this particular aircraft stands out because its entire exterior is a masterpiece. By turning a commercial jet into a symbol of national heritage, the airline is creating a unique narrative for travelers. This innovative fusion of art and technology has sparked significant interest at the Mangaluru airport, marking a new chapter in the intersection of culture and the aviation industry.
