Mangaluru : The Golden Jubilee celebration of Mangalore Store, Jeppu, along with a felicitation ceremony for achievers, was held on Friday at Palemar Garden, Jeppu Morgansgate. The event commenced with a prayer by Neha Rakshith and was inaugurated by Vidwan Dr. Satyakrishna Bhat of the Shri Radhakrishna Temple (Balambhat family). In his inaugural address, Dr. Bhat noted that the 50th-anniversary celebration was meaningfully combined with the ‘Bheemaratha Shanti Homa,’ a sacred ritual performed during one’s 70th year. He lauded the proprietor, K. Bhaskar Rao, for his proactive nature and for utilizing his resources to serve society, thereby preserving a tradition of joy and cultural values.
Former Minister Krishna J. Palemar, who attended as a guest of honor, expressed his appreciation for the store’s five decades of consistent service to the community. He remarked that under Bhaskar Rao’s leadership, Mangalore Store has earned a reputable name through silent yet impactful social work. The ceremony featured the felicitation of several distinguished personalities, including Krishna J. Palemar himself, Dr. Malathi Hegde, M.S. Padakannaya, international dancer Remona Evette Pereira, and Shilpa Santhosh. Additionally, to mark the 50-year milestone, 50 long-standing senior customers were honored for their loyalty.
K. Bhaskar Rao, the proprietor of Mangalore Store and a former MCC member, welcomed the gathering and reflected on the journey of the establishment since its inception in 1976. He emphasized that the commitment to public service remains a priority. The event was marked by the symbolic lighting of 70 wicks in seven lamps to celebrate his 70th year. Alongside the cultural festivities, the program included a free eye check-up camp by Prasad Netralaya and a health camp for blood pressure and sugar testing by the Jeppu Health Centre, which saw significant public participation.
The evening was enriched by cultural performances, starting with a Bharatanatyam recital by Dhanvi Rao under the guidance of Vidushi Vinaya Rao, followed by a light music (Sugama Sangeetha) concert by Neha Rakshith. Several dignitaries, including former Mayors Premananda Shetty, Sudhir Shetty Kannur, and Shashidhar Hegde, as well as renowned ophthalmologist Dr. Krishna Prasad Kudlu and industrialist M.S. Padakannaya, were in attendance. The event concluded with a community feast and the National Anthem. Yogish Kumar Jeppu, who coordinated the event alongside Usha Bhavani Shankar and Kalpana Venkatesh, delivered the vote of thanks.
