Bengaluru : Launching the ‘My e-Khata, My Right’ campaign in Bengaluru today, DCM D K Shivakumar hailed the initiative as a scheme where citizens of Bengaluru can get their e-Khatas at their doorstep without a paying single rupee bribe.
The DCM, who is also the Minister for Bengaluru Development, paid a visit to the “My e-Khata, My Right” campaign centre launched on Saturday at National Public School in Horamavu under the jurisdiction of Bengaluru East City Corporation. He reviewed the process, listened to citizens’ grievances and addressed the public.
Speaking to reporters on the sidelines, he said, “The people of Bengaluru can get their properties converted from ‘B’ Khata to ‘A’ Khata and receive an e-Khata at their doorstep without paying even a single rupee as bribe. Seven lakh people will benefit from this. Bengaluru residents and applicants are happy with this campaign,” he said.
“The Khata document will also include a photograph. If anyone submits fake documents to get a Khata, there is a system to cancel it. Upon providing the designated number, all records from 2004 onwards will be available. It has been linked to the Sub-Registrar’s office. E-Khata will be issued to eligible owners,” he explained.
My e-Khata campaign every Saturday
“Conversion from B Khata to A Khata is being done to increase your property values. This is a historic decision. Through this, you can avail bank loans and other facilities. Of the 23 lakh properties in Bengaluru, 16 lakh are A Khata and 7 lakh are B Khata. It had come to my attention that lower-level officials were harassing people and taking bribes in Khata matters. That is why the campaign will be held every Saturday,” he said.
“If there are issues with your property documents, officials will come to the site and conduct an inspection. Your properties will be given an identification number. Using this, incorrect records will be rectified. Earlier, 5% of the property value had to be paid. However, those who pay the fees in 100 days will get a discounted fee of 2%. This is a golden opportunity for the public. We will provide your Khata in file form itself, which will include your photo and a photo of the house. It can also be downloaded online. Nobody can duplicate it,” he said.
“The public should not pay even a single rupee as bribe to anyone — not to officials, not to members of any party. Government lands cannot be sanctioned. We are a model for the entire country. The Central Government has appreciated us, saying we are doing good work. We are providing Land Guarantee as the sixth guarantee. If the plot you purchased was of low value at that time, the property value will increase with the Khata conversion,” he said.
“Middlemen must be kept away. A system must be set up to file complaints against any official who demands a bribe. A specific phone number will be provided for this. Complaints can be lodged against those who demand bribes. Strict action will be taken against such persons,” he warned.
