Mangaluru : The Australian Consul General, Hilary McGeachy, met with Dakshina Kannada Member of Parliament Captain Brijesh Chowta in Mangaluru on Monday to discuss several strategic initiatives aimed at the district’s growth. The high-level meeting primarily focused on leveraging Australia’s extensive expertise in adventure water sports and coastal tourism to enhance the potential of Dakshina Kannada’s shoreline. Given that both Australia and coastal Karnataka share vast maritime borders, the discussions centered on how Australian technical know-how and decades of experience in the marine sector could be utilized to develop the local tourism infrastructure.
Beyond tourism, the duo explored potential collaborations in the field of education and sports. A key highlight of the discussion was the possibility of partnering with Australian universities to develop specialized sports curricula. This initiative aims to provide local youth with better opportunities and global standards in sports education, fostering a culture of athletic excellence in the region. During this cordial visit, the Consul General presented a leather cricket ball to Capt. Chowta as a symbolic souvenir, reflecting the shared sporting passion between the two nations.
Following the meeting, Captain Brijesh Chowta expressed optimism about the outcomes, stating that such international engagements go beyond strengthening bilateral ties. He noted that these initiatives would open new avenues for the youth by providing them with global-level skills and exposure. Furthermore, he emphasized that these developments would contribute significantly to the local economy and align with the broader vision of ‘Viksit Bharat’ (Developed India) by integrating global expertise with local potential.
