Congress Protests Demanding Arrest of CEC Gyanesh Kumar; Effigies Burnt in Mangaluru

Mangaluru : Congress leaders and workers staged a massive protest in Mangaluru on Monday, expressing fierce outrage against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. Alleging large-scale irregularities in the Election Commission’s functioning and the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process of the voters’ list, the protesters vehemently demanded the immediate arrest of the Chief Election Commissioner.

The agitation commenced with a foot march led by Congress leaders and cadre from Mahaveera Circle to the Prajasoudha, after which the protesters gathered in large numbers in front of the Deputy Commissioner’s office. Demonstrators accused CEC Gyanesh Kumar of misusing the constitutional body and functioning in a manner that undermines the foundational democratic framework of the country.

During the high-voltage demonstration, enraged Congress workers burnt effigies of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, and Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. Tensions escalated when several protesters attempted to storm into the Deputy Commissioner’s office premises, prompting police personnel on duty to intervene quickly, block their path, and bring the situation under control.

The protesters demanded a thorough, independent investigation into the allegations raised by the Congress party regarding the Election Commission’s conduct and the SIR process. They further insisted that stringent legal action must be initiated against Gyanesh Kumar to uphold the integrity and transparency of the electoral system.
