Belthangady : The Special Investigation Team (SIT) has intensified its probe into establishing the identities of the seven skeletons discovered in a suspected mass suicide condition at Banglegudde in Dharmasthala village. In a crucial step toward solving the case, the recovered skeletal remains have been dispatched to the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) for comprehensive DNA profiling and analysis.
Concurrently, the investigation team is meticulously cross-referencing records of missing persons from various parts of Karnataka, as well as neighboring states including Kerala and Telangana. Investigators are maintaining a sharp focus on missing person complaints registered within the jurisdiction of the Dharmasthala police station and its surrounding areas, while also gathering data from alternative intelligence sources to generate potential leads.
As part of the DNA matching process, the SIT has already collected blood samples from eight families who have reported missing relatives. Efforts are currently underway to secure blood samples from nine additional families for further verification. These seven skeletons were unearthed last year on September 17 and 18 during an extensive combing and search operation conducted by the SIT on the upper ridges of Banglegudde.
