Belthangady: Dr. D. Veerendra Heggade, Member of Parliament (Rajya Sabha) and Dharmadhikari of Shri Kshetra Dharmasthala, laid the foundation stone for development works sanctioned under his Member of Parliament Local Area Development Scheme (MPLADS) funds. The project, valued at ₹2 crore, includes the widening, asphaltation, and construction of a drainage system for the road connecting KEB-Renkedaguthu to Mallottu in Belthangady city. Additionally, he inaugurated the Siri Cafe and Siri Store on Monday.
MPLADS Used for Livelihood Improvement: Dr. Heggade
Speaking at the event, Dr. Heggade highlighted that the daily reports from the Rural Development Project inform him about the needs of villages and the livelihood status of the rural population. Based on this information, he utilized ₹10 crore of his MPLADS funds for dairy development in Bidar district, which is 800 km away. This intervention has successfully increased daily milk production from 18,000 liters to 1.40 lakh liters, significantly improving the economic condition of the people there. He affirmed that the MPLADS funds will continue to be used to enhance the lives of the needy.
He also mentioned using the funds for installing Smart Classrooms in several schools in the taluk to promote children’s education.
The road project receiving the ₹2 crore grant was sanctioned based on the request from the local MLA, Town Panchayat President, and members, aiming to benefit the public.
Dr. Heggade’s Model Use of MP Fund: MLA Harish Poonja
MLA Harish Poonja praised Dr. Heggade for being a role model in the utilization of the MP fund. He noted that the ₹2 crore sanctioned by Dr. Heggade for the road connecting Ayyappa Mandir to Hunsakatte in Belthangady will provide a vital alternate route, easing traffic congestion at Guruvayanakere on the state highway.
He emphasized that by granting ₹10 crore for dairy development in Bidar, Dr. Heggade has contributed to the economic growth of thousands of families, setting a national example for MPLADS utilization, for which he has also received commendation from the President of India.
Poonja conveyed his gratitude on behalf of the public for the ₹2 crore grant, which strengthened the Town Panchayat’s infrastructure budget.
MPLADS Allocation Details
K.N. Janardhan, Personal Secretary to Dr. Heggade, provided a breakdown of the total MPLADS funds utilized so far:
Total Sanctioned Fund (So Far): ₹16.74 crore.
Dairy Sector (Bidar): ₹10 crore allocated to milk societies, leading to a daily production of over one lakh liters.
Belthangady Road Development: ₹2 crore for the widening and development of the Belthangady-Hunsakatte road.
Dharmasthala Infrastructure: ₹2.41 crore for roads and basic amenities in Ashok Nagar, Dharmasthala.
Education: ₹1.83 crore for installing Smart Classrooms in over 140 schools.
