Mangaluru : Due to widespread rainfall across Dakshina Kannada district and weather forecasts predicting the continuation of heavy rains, the District Disaster Management Authority has declared a holiday for educational institutions on August 3, 2026, as a precautionary measure. District Magistrate and Deputy Commissioner issued the order, warning that strict legal action under the Disaster Management Act, 2005, will be taken against anyone violating the directive.
Under this order, all Anganwadi centers, as well as government, aided, and private primary and high schools up to Class 10 (including residential schools), will remain closed in the Mangaluru sub-division taluks of Mangaluru, Bantwal, Moodbidri, Mulki, and Ullal. In the Puttur sub-division taluks—Puttur, Belthangady, Sullia, and Kadaba—the holiday applies to Anganwadi centers, primary and high schools, pre-university (PU) colleges, ITIs, and Diploma colleges up to Class 12 (including residential institutions).
Parents have been strictly advised to ensure children do not venture near low-lying waterlogged areas, ponds, riverbanks, or beaches. Fishermen have been instructed not to venture into the sea, while tourists and the general public are advised to stay away from riverbanks and sea coasts. District and taluk-level officials must remain at their headquarters, promptly handle public grievances, keep relief centers ready in each taluk, and coordinate continuously with the District Collector’s control room.
