Mangaluru : Former Minister B. Ramanath Rai stated that India’s first Prime Minister, Jawaharlal Nehru, laid a robust foundation for building a modern nation by implementing highly ambitious economic, social, and political reforms. He was speaking after paying floral tributes to the portrait of the legendary freedom fighter during his death anniversary program organized at the Congress Bhavan in Mallikatte on Wednesday.
Reflecting on Nehru’s stellar 17-year tenure as Prime Minister, Rai highlighted how he spearheaded a social revolution by establishing world-class educational institutions, science and research centers, technical colleges, medical institutes, major dams, hospitals, and industrial hubs. He emphasized that the visionary five-year plans introduced by Nehru are the core reason why India has successfully emerged as a major global economic power today.
Rai further pointed out that Nehru sacrificed nine years of his life in prison during the arduous struggle for India’s independence. In a sharp critique of the current political narrative, he asserted that no leader from the BJP had ever participated in the freedom struggle. He condemned the ongoing smear campaigns aimed at tarnishing the Nehru family’s image and distorting history, declaring that nobody can ever erase Nehru’s monumental contributions or his name from the pages of the nation’s history.
The commemorative event witnessed the presence of several prominent leaders, including MUDA Chairman Sadashiv Ullal, Surendra Kambli, R. K. Prithviraj, Abdul Rauf, Jayasheela Adyanthaya, Abbas Ali, S. Appi, Shubhoday Alva, Neeraj Chandrapal, T. K.
