Dubai: A social integration programme organised by Jayashreekrishna Parisara Premi Samiti, a registered NGO, was held successfully at Fortune Atrium in Dubai on August 13, bringing together prominent Kannadigas, community leaders and representatives of Udupi and Dakshina Kannada districts based organisations in the UAE in the presence of Founder of the Samiti Thonse Jayakrishna A Shetty.
Inaugurating the programme, noted NRI entrepreneur Dr. Ronald Colaco said communalism was emerging as a major obstacle to the development of coastal Karnataka and was discouraging investors from bringing capital to the region.
He said industries capable of contributing to the development of coastal Karnataka were increasingly moving to other regions, resulting in slower economic growth and fewer employment opportunities for local youths. Communalism could prove detrimental to the region’s future development, he warned.
“Instead of fighting over caste and religion, we must work together to create opportunities for industries in our districts. Industrial growth can contribute significantly to the overall development of the region,” Dr. Colaco said.
Industrialist Dr. B. R. Shetty, World Devadiga Mahamandala president Dharmapala Devadiga, entrepreneur Ronald Pinto and BCCI president Hidayath Addoor were among the distinguished guests at the programme.
Committee founder Thonse Jayakrishna A. Shetty, in his introductory address, outlined the objectives of the Jayashreekrishna Parisara Premi Samiti and highlighted its various environmental protection and community-oriented initiatives.
The speakers stressed that economic development and environmental conservation must go hand in hand. They called for greater emphasis on industrialisation, tourism and commercial activities to promote the comprehensive development of coastal Karnataka and the undivided Dakshina Kannada region.
They also emphasised the need for a development model that combines industrial growth and job creation with effective pollution control. By fully utilising the potential of tourism and commerce and generating more local employment opportunities, the region could make significant progress in poverty reduction, they said.
Speaking on environmental protection, the guests noted that safeguarding air, water and land was the responsibility of every individual. They urged people to keep their surroundings clean, protect natural resources and adopt environmentally sustainable approaches to development.
On social harmony, the speakers delivered the message: “Loving our own caste and religion is our responsibility; loving and respecting other castes and religions is our greater responsibility.” Mutual respect, coexistence and humanity, they said, were the foundations of a peaceful and progressive society.
Dr. B. R. Shetty, Dharmapala Devadiga and Frank Fernandes also delivered goodwill messages, praising the committee’s environmental and social initiatives and wishing it continued success in its service activities.
Later, programme Samiti founder Thonse Jayakrishna A. Shetty felicitated Dr. Ronald Koico and Dr. B. R. Shetty in recognition of their contributions to environmental protection, social service, industrial progress and community development. Community leaders and committee members congratulated the honourees.
UAE committee coordinator Sarvothama Shetty delivered the welcome address.
The programme emerged as a meaningful gathering highlighting the importance of environmental protection, economic development, employment generation and social unity. It also provided a platform for prominent non-resident Kannadigas in the UAE, heads of Karnataka-oriented organisations and well-wishers to meet, exchange views and further strengthen friendship, harmony and social commitment.
