Mangaluru : The recent insult directed at veteran Kambala judge, often hailed as the ‘Bhishma of Kambala’, Gunapala Kadamba, during the Mangaluru Kambala had sparked massive outrage. Social media was flooded with criticism after an audio clip went viral, where Arun Shetty was heard arguing with Kadamba during commentary. Furthermore, accusations surfaced that Muchur Lokesh Shetty had used derogatory language against the veteran. Fans of Kadamba had formed groups demanding a public apology from those involved.
To resolve the growing tension, Dakshina Kannada MP Captain Brijesh Chowta and District Kambala Committee President Belapu Deviprasad Shetty intervened. A meeting was convened in Moodabidri involving both parties and prominent Kambala buffalo owners like Kolachur Sukumara Shetty. During the discussions, the leaders urged everyone to end the dispute and uphold the dignity of the traditional sport.
Following the mediation, a public apology was tendered on the stage of the Miyar Kambala in Karkala. Belapu Deviprasad Shetty apologized on behalf of all buffalo owners and the committee, emphasizing that Kadamba is a mentor to everyone. Muchur Lokesh Shetty also expressed regret, stating that the incident was an unintended mistake and seeking Kadamba’s continued blessings, thereby officially putting an end to the controversy.
