Bengaluru : Karnataka Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar has officially allocated portfolios on Thursday to the thirteen newly inducted cabinet ministers who took the oath of office alongside him on Wednesday. This crucial move effectively puts an end to intense political anticipation regarding the distribution of powerful ministries, including high-profile portfolios such as Finance, Home, Revenue, Water Resources, and Bengaluru Urban Development.
The distribution process followed intense lobbying, as several senior cabinet members aggressively pushed for specific key portfolios. Many veteran leaders successfully pressured the Chief Minister to reassign them the very same ministries they had managed under the previous Siddaramaiah-led government. They justified this demand by pointing out that numerous critical projects and major welfare schemes initiated during their earlier tenure remain incomplete and urgently require execution under their continuity. Consequently, Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar accommodated their requests by retaining many ministers in their familiar past roles.
While senior leader Ramalinga Reddy had heavily eyed the Bengaluru Urban Development portfolio, he has instead been entrusted with the crucial responsibility of the Water Resources ministry. The coveted post of Bengaluru Development has instead been handed over to Krishna Byre Gowda. Meanwhile, Deputy Chief Minister Dr. G. Parameshwara has been designated to lead the Revenue and Youth Empowerment departments, and Satish Jarkiholi has secured the mantle of the Public Works Department (PWD). Furthermore, K.J. George, another influential political weight in the cabinet, has taken charge of the Energy sector, while Bhairati Suresh—a close political confidant of former Chief Minister Siddaramaiah—has been given the responsibility of the Transport department.
The official, complete blueprint of the cabinet assignment stands distributed as follows: Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar will directly steer Finance, Intelligence, Cooperation, and Personnel and Administrative Reforms (DPAR). Deputy Chief Minister Dr. G. Parameshwara takes on Revenue and Youth Empowerment. Krishna Byre Gowda will oversee Bengaluru Development, while Priyank Kharge becomes the new minister for Home Affairs alongside IT-BT. Dr. Yathindra Siddaramaiah has been designated to control Urban Development and Backward Classes Welfare, and U.T. Khader secures the Health ministry. Satish Jarkiholi takes the helm at Public Works, M.B. Patil will head Large Scale Industries, and K.J. George will oversee both Energy and Tourism. Lastly, K.H. Muniyappa secures Food and Civil Supplies, Ramalinga Reddy holds Water Resources, Eshwar Khandre takes charge of Panchayat Raj and Rural Development, Bhairati Suresh leads Transport, and Dr. Sharan Prakash Patil has been appointed as the Medical Education minister.
