Udupi : In a successful operation against the illegal diversion of subsidized food grains, Kota police intercepted an illegal racket attempting to transport government Anna Bhagya rice and seized 160 quintals of the commodity. The raid took place on Tuesday, July 28, opposite the Mahalaxmi Hotel in Manoor village under the Brahmavar jurisdiction.
Acting on precise intelligence gathered by Brahmavar Food Inspector Vasanth Kumar, police officers raided the site while the rice was actively being loaded onto a truck for illegal sale. According to authorities, Nagaraj Naik, owner of Sri Ganesh Rice Industries in Nadamaskari, Kumta, was facilitating the loading process with the intention of smuggling the supply to Shaji Trading Company located in Kasaragod.
During the seizure, law enforcement recovered 320 white plastic polythene bags containing 160 quintals of government PDS rice valued at approximately ₹3,84,000, along with the transport vehicle involved. A case has been registered under Crime No. 122/2026 under Sections 3, 6, and 7 of the Essential Commodities Act 1955, Section 3(2)(3) of the PDS Control Order 2016, and Section 312 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) 2023 as investigation proceeds.
