Mangaluru : KPCC President BK Hariprasad has stated that the selection process for district-level party leadership, including that of the Dakshina Kannada District Congress President, is underway under the All India Congress Committee’s (AICC) ‘Sanghatan Srujan Abhiyan’ initiative. Addressing a press conference at the District Congress Office in Mangaluru on Tuesday, he clarified that his own selection was part of this administrative process. Explaining the overhaul in the selection method, Hariprasad noted that unlike the earlier system where names were directly recommended by the PCC President and CLP leader, external observers will now camp in the district for at least seven days. They will hold meetings across all Block Congress Committees, gather feedback from members, and submit a shortlist of two to six potential candidates to the AICC to decide whether to retain the incumbent or appoint a new leader.
Responding to queries about the candidate selection for the upcoming assembly elections, Hariprasad mentioned that since he has recently taken charge, the immediate priority is to assess the party’s ground reality by strengthening the district and block committees. He emphasized that special focus will be given to the coastal region, noting that the choice of holding their very first major party event in the coast indicates their long-term plans to maintain an active presence here. He further assured that substantial preference would be given to youth and women representation in future party affairs.
The state party chief also shared details of a video conference held with the Central Election Commission regarding the ongoing Special Summary Revision (SSR). He stated that during the interaction, he raised concerns over the logistical difficulties of reaching out to marginalized and tribal groups like Malekudiyas, Koragas, nomads, and migratory fishermen who live in hilly or remote areas, especially during the monsoon season. In response, the Election Commission assured that a specialized campaign would be launched to ensure that nomads, fishermen, migrant laborers, and tribal communities who remain inaccessible due to natural and seasonal conditions are successfully contacted and included in the electoral process.
