Mangaluru : In a swift and major crackdown driven by numerous public grievances, the Udupi Lokayukta police launched a surprise raid on Friday at the Udupi Urban Development Authority (UUDA) office located in Adi Udupi. The anti-corruption wing targeted various branches within the office and conducted an extensive verification of pending files. Top officials confirmed that the high-stakes operation was executed following a formal search warrant obtained directly from the head office of the Karnataka Lokayukta in Bengaluru.
The strategic raid was carried out under the direct guidance of Mangaluru Lokayukta Superintendent of Police (SP) Dinesh Kumar. The field operation was spearheaded by Udupi Lokayukta Deputy Superintendent of Police (DySP) Halamurthi Rao, who was accompanied by Police Inspector Rajendra Naik, Mangaluru Lokayukta Inspector Bharati, and a dedicated team of personnel. The sudden presence of the anti-corruption squad caught the local office staff off guard, leading to a meticulous scrutiny of official records across multiple departments.
During the extensive search, the Lokayukta team unearthed an unusually large number of files that were deliberately kept pending for disposal. Furthermore, investigators discovered several documents that were processed and cleared in clear violation of established legal procedures. Consequently, the team seized approximately 200 crucial files and incriminating documents for further investigation. DySP Halamurthi Rao stated that a comprehensive and detailed report regarding the irregularities would be submitted to the Bengaluru Lokayukta headquarters to initiate strict legal actions against the erring officials and staff involved.
