Karkala : The Karkala Rural Police have arrested a person after he allegedly posted a provocative and edited video targeting Karkala MLA V. Sunil Kumar on Facebook. According to a complaint filed by Vignesh Prasad Rao, a resident of Karkala, the offensive video came to light at around 10:00 PM on September 12. The complainant noted that the content was uploaded from a Facebook profile registered under the name Prasad Shetty.
The video reportedly featured a heavily edited image depicting the decapitation of MLA Sunil Kumar, accompanied by obscene audio and movie tracks designed to incite violence against the elected representative. The complainant alleged that the post aimed to provoke the public, disturb communal harmony and public order, and instigate people against a public official.
Based on the complaint, the Karkala Rural Police registered a case under Crime No. 74/2026 under Sections 55, 192, 351(3), and 353(1)(c) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023. The police subsequently arrested the accused, identified as Prasad Shetty, and initiated legal proceedings to produce him before the court for further investigation.
