Mangaluru : The Mangaluru City Police have successfully apprehended a notorious fugitive who had been evading the law for the past eight years. The accused, identified as Abubakar Siddique, also known as ‘Kapri Siddique,’ is a resident of Uppala in the Kasaragod district of Kerala. He was allegedly involved in multiple cases of cattle slaughter and theft within the Mangaluru City Police Commissionerate limits and had failed to appear before the court since 2018.
Serious charges had been registered against Siddique under the Karnataka Prevention of Slaughter and Preservation of Cattle Act and various sections related to theft at the Ullal, Konaje, and Kankanady City police stations. Despite the court issuing multiple Non-Bailable Warrants (NBW) against him, the accused had managed to remain underground, shifting locations to dodge the authorities for nearly a decade.
The breakthrough came after the Mangaluru Police Commissioner formed a specialized task force dedicated to tracking down long-term absconders. Acting on precise intelligence gathered regarding his movements, a team led by PSI Siddappa conducted a strategic operation to secure the accused. Following his arrest, Abubakar Siddique was handed over to the Ullal police for further legal proceedings and subsequently produced before the court, which remanded him to judicial custody.
