Mangaluru : Dakshina Kannada District In-charge Minister U.T. Khader directed officials to make comprehensive preparations for the upcoming Mangaluru Dasara festival, aiming to attract a large number of tourists to the district. Presiding over a preparatory meeting at the Deputy Commissioner’s office on Tuesday, the Minister emphasized creating a vibrant festive atmosphere across Mangaluru city through extensive cleanliness drives and mesmerizing illuminations. He instructed authorities to ensure decorative lighting along key roads and major junctions leading to prominent celebration hubs, including the Kudroli Gokarnanatheshwara Temple, Mangaladevi Temple, and Urwa Mariyamma Temple, calling for seamless inter-departmental cooperation.
To handle the expected surge in visitors, Minister Khader instructed the police department to deploy adequate traffic personnel, manage smooth vehicle movement, and arrange dedicated parking facilities. Furthermore, he directed the Health Department to set up round-the-clock emergency health centers, while advising the Regional Transport Office (RTO) to extend city bus services late into the night. He also suggested allowing commercial and business establishments in the city to operate for extended hours during the festival period to accommodate tourists and residents.
The high-level meeting was attended by key dignitaries and officials, including MLAs Vedavyas Kamath and Ivan D’Souza, District In-charge Secretary Tulasi Maddineni, Police Commissioner Sudheer Kumar Reddy, Deputy Commissioner Darshan H.V., Zilla Panchayat CEO Narwade Vinayak Karbhari, and Superintendent of Police Dr. Arun K. Other notable attendees included Karnataka Cashew Development Corporation Chairperson Mamata D.S. Gatti, Mangaluru Urban Development Authority (MUDA) Chairman Santosh Kumar Shetty, and City Corporation Commissioner Rahul Ratnam Pandey.
