Mangaluru : In a proactive move to ensure infrastructure quality, Member of the Legislative Council (MLC) Ivan D’Souza conducted a personal site inspection of the ongoing stormwater drain construction in the Kannur area, which falls under the jurisdiction of the Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC). The civil project is actively being executed under the state-sponsored Mahatma Gandhi Vikas Yojana. During his visit, the legislator closely monitored the pace and technical execution of the development work.
Addressing the site engineers and executives on location, MLC D’Souza issued strict directives to both corporation officials and contractors to expedite the construction process while maintaining top-notch quality standards. He emphasized that given the active monsoon season, implementing rigorous precautionary measures is absolutely non-negotiable to prevent any waterlogging or public inconvenience in the residential vicinity.
The legislator further noted that numerous urban upgrade projects are simultaneously underway across various sectors of the city under the Mahatma Gandhi Vikas Yojana. He stressed that the engineering wing of the Mangaluru City Corporation must provide constant on-site supervision and guidance to contractors, ensuring every single public project reaches completion well within the officially stipulated timeframe without any compromise.
Underscoring accountability in public spending, D’Souza warned that since these infrastructure projects are funded entirely by taxpayers’ money, there is absolutely zero tolerance for negligence, delays, or sub-standard execution. He directed the authorities to strictly adhere to the prescribed structural guidelines and carry out the operations in a manner that upholds and honors public trust.
The high-profile inspection saw the participation of several prominent local leaders, including Congress party stalwarts Habibullah Kannur, Abdul Khader, Ashraf Beedu, Shareef Bollurugudde, Monu Bollurugudde, Latheef Kundala, Akbar, Shareef Kundala, Putha, and Farooq. Additionally, Munna, the President of the Youth Congress Kannur Ward, along with other party party workers, was present to brief the MLC on local civic requirements.
