Kundapura : One fisherman died and another is missing after a boat capsized off the Murudeshwar coast on Thursday morning, officials said.
The incident occurred when four fishermen were heading out to sea from Murudeshwar in a gillnet boat owned by Janardhan A Harikant.
The boat reportedly capsized due to strong waves. One of the fishermen, Madhav Harikant (45), drowned and was rushed to the hospital where he was declared brought dead.
The search operation is on for Venkatesh Annappa Harikant (26), who is still missing.
Two fishermen, Anand Annappa Harikant and an unidentified crew member, swam to shore and escaped with their lives.
Officials said that Murudeshwar police, coastal security police, local fishermen and residents have launched a search operation for the missing person.
