Rahul Gandhi’s Allegations Against Election Commission Threaten Democracy: MP Capt Brijesh Chowta

New Delhi : Launching a scathing attack on Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, Dakshina Kannada MP Captain Brijesh Chowta stated that Gandhi has made vilifying constitutional bodies like the Election Commission of India (ECI) his primary political weapon. Expressing deep regret over this trend, Capt Chowta remarked that Rahul Gandhi continues to attack the Constitution drafted by Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, which serves as the solid foundation of our democratic system.

The MP pointed out that the Election Commission’s recent clarification has once again exposed Rahul Gandhi’s irresponsible attitude before the nation. He accused Gandhi of habitually targeting constitutional institutions whenever the public mandate goes against his party. Capt Chowta noted that blaming Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs), questioning the electoral process, and casting aspersions on the Election Commission have become a standard strategy for the Congress leader, who prefers creating confusion over accepting electoral defeats with basic political courtesy.

Critiquing the double standards of the Congress party, Capt Chowta questioned why the Election Commission and EVMs are deemed faultless when Congress wins in states like Kerala, Telangana, Himachal Pradesh, or Karnataka, but are branded compromised when the party faces defeat elsewhere. Unable to digest consecutive electoral losses, Congress is attempting to suppress constitutional bodies through malicious conspiracies and unfounded allegations, he expressed with strong outrage.

Highlighting the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) controversy, the MP stated that Congress attempted to project a routine administrative revision of voter lists as a major ‘constitutional crisis’ to undermine public trust in the commission. However, the ECI’s clarification has thoroughly debunked these false claims, confirming that decisions regarding SIR were unanimously taken by all three Election Commissioners. He added that the Supreme Court has also upheld Form 6 related to SIR, questioning whether Congress’s hidden agenda is to foster distrust in constitutional machinery for petty political gains.

Capt Chowta further challenged Rahul Gandhi by pointing out that Congress leaders in Kerala, including Dr. Shashi Tharoor, have openly acknowledged that the SIR process helped eliminate fake voters. He questioned how a process that is acceptable in Kerala becomes an ‘attack on democracy’ elsewhere, urging Congress to stop altering its political stance according to convenience. He emphasized that cleaning up electoral rolls by removing deceased and relocated voters is essential to protect the rights of eligible citizens and prevent electoral fraud.

Concluding his statement, Capt Brijesh Chowta asserted that in Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ‘New India’, baseless allegations cannot bury the truth, as constitutional bodies possess the transparency to dismantle falsehoods with facts. He advised Rahul Gandhi to act like a responsible Opposition leader and present concrete evidence before the ECI if he suspects wrongdoing, rather than resorting to self-serving politics that damages public faith in democratic institutions.
