Residents of Bajpe Shanthigudde Urge MLA Ivan D'Souza to Include Their Area in MRPL and MSEZL Green Belt Land Acquisition

Mangaluru : A delegation of 105 families from the Bajpe Shanthigudde area recently met with Legislative Council Member Ivan D’Souza to submit a formal request for the inclusion of their locality in the ongoing land acquisition process for the MRPL and MSEZL green belt. The government has already initiated proceedings to acquire approximately 27 acres for this purpose, and the residents are seeking to be part of this initiative to escape the severe impacts of industrial pollution.

In their appeal, the local residents highlighted that they have been grappling with hazardous industrial pollution since 2007, yet have not received a permanent solution from the government to date. Despite receiving various notices regarding land acquisition over the years, the process remains incomplete. Consequently, with no development occurring on their land, the affected families continue to live in a state of extreme uncertainty and hardship.

Responding immediately to these concerns, Ivan D’Souza contacted the Deputy Commissioner via telephone, urging them to treat the matter with urgency. He requested that the official personally visit the site to inspect the ground reality. Furthermore, he directed that a comprehensive report regarding the residents’ plight be prepared and submitted to the government, emphasizing the need for MRPL or MSEZL to acquire the land and provide the residents with a permanent, viable solution.

The Deputy Commissioner assured the delegation that a site inspection would be conducted, and a detailed report would be prepared for the government’s consideration, with promised follow-up actions in the near future.

Adding to his commitment, Ivan D’Souza assured the residents that he would escalate the issue to the government’s attention. He pledged to raise this matter during the upcoming legislative session to ensure that the residents of Bajpe Shanthigudde receive justice and that the government takes decisive action to address their grievances. The meeting saw the participation of numerous affected residents, including Siraj Bajpe, Nissar Karavali, Krishnaraja, Maiyaddi, Kishore Kulal, Zakir Hussain, Shishir Kulal, Vinod Kulal, Harish Poojari, Kaushik Jogi, Rafeeq, Rafeeq Shanthigudde, Hafeez Zora, Kareem, Mumtaz, Malathi, Malathi Kulal, and Jayanthi.
