Illegal Cattle Transportation Foil: Padubidri Police Arrest Two Men, Rescue Livestock Worth Lakhs

Udupi : The Padubidri police successfully intercepted an illegal cattle transportation ring during an early morning operation on Sunday, arresting two individuals on charges of illicit smuggling and animal cruelty. The arrested suspects have been identified as 42-year-old Ismail, a resident of Abbas Gudde in Nadsalu village under Kaup taluk, and 62-year-old Karnire Mohammad, a resident of Karnire village in Mulki taluk. Activating swiftly upon receiving confidential intelligence, PSI (Investigation) Anil Kumar T. Nayak was informed that cattle were being transported inside a commercial goods vehicle coming from Karkala towards Padubidri around 6:40 AM.

The specialized police team intercepted a 407 Turbo goods vehicle bearing registration number KA-19-A-6151 at Kajanadka in Inna village, which falls under the jurisdiction of the Padubidri police station. Upon inspecting the vehicle, officers discovered three cattle tied up inside the carrier in a severely cramped and brutal manner, completely flouting animal welfare regulations. The police immediately rescued the distressed livestock and took both suspects into custody to be presented before the court. According to police sources, the prime accused, Ismail, has a notorious criminal history involving illegal cattle trafficking and cow slaughter prohibition offenses, with multiple pending cases registered against him across Barke, Mulki, Bantwal Town, Surathkal, Karkala Town, and Hebri police stations.

The law enforcement authorities confirmed that the cumulative value of the seized commercial vehicle and the rescued cattle is estimated to be around 4.25 lakh rupees. The successful raid and rescue operation was executed under the leadership of PSI Anil Kumar T. Nayak, who was ably supported by an active police team consisting of ASI Dinakar, Head Constables Naveen Kumar, Ashwin Kumar, and Krishna Prasad, along with Police Constables Sandesh, Prabhu Athani, Raghavendra, Annappa, and Sridhar.
