Mangaluru : Former Minister B. Ramanath Rai has lauded Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah as a leader who serves as the voice of the voiceless and a champion of the backward classes. Speaking at a press conference held at the Congress Bhavan in Mangaluru on Thursday, Rai emphasized that the Chief Minister has shown special concern in providing justice to those deprived of social equity. He noted that Siddaramaiah has adopted the ideological stance of Basavanna in his life and has made significant contributions to the state’s overall development.
Rai expressed his delight that Siddaramaiah is following in the footsteps of the late former Chief Minister D. Devaraj Urs, matching his record of long-term governance. Reflecting on his personal experience serving as a minister in Siddaramaiah’s previous cabinet, Rai recalled that he had the opportunity to observe the Chief Minister’s working style closely. He highlighted that during that tenure, the government successfully fulfilled nearly 95% of the promises made in the election manifesto, showcasing a high level of administrative commitment.
Highlighting specific achievements, Ramanath Rai pointed out that Siddaramaiah was the first Chief Minister to implement the Food Security Act effectively. He also noted that under his leadership, bills for contractors who executed development works were never kept pending, and he introduced a revolutionary reservation system in government contracts. Schemes such as Anna Bhagya and Vidyasiri were termed “revolutionary steps” by Rai, who also listed achievements like the waiver of loans for corporations, Gram Panchayats, and farmers.
Furthermore, Rai detailed a list of infrastructure and welfare projects initiated by Siddaramaiah, including the Yettinahole project, Paschima Vahini project, and the construction of Mini Vidhana Soudhas, Praja Soudhas, and Ambedkar Bhavans. He concluded by stating that while Siddaramaiah’s performance in the previous term was “the best,” his current tenure has achieved unprecedented success through the implementation of the “Pancha Guarantee” schemes, benefiting millions across the state.
