Mangaluru : In a prompt action against substance abuse, the management of a private college in Mangaluru caught three students carrying cannabis (ganja) inside the campus premises on Tuesday and handed them over to the police. During a routine check conducted by the college authorities, approximately 290 grams of cannabis, neatly packed in small pouches, was discovered in the possession of the trio. The management immediately alerted the local police station and handed over the students along with the seized contraband.
Following the handover, the police subjected all three students to a medical examination, which confirmed that they had consumed the illegal drug. Subsequently, an FIR was registered under Sections 27(b) (consumption) and 8(c) of the NDPS (Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances) Act. The student who reportedly brought the drugs to the college was produced before the magistrate. Considering the student’s academic background and the small quantity of cannabis seized, the court granted him bail. Meanwhile, the police have launched a search operation to trace the drug peddler who supplied the cannabis to the students.
