Mangaluru : The Dakshina Kannada district administration organized a solemn memorial service on Friday to pay heartfelt tributes to the victims of the tragic air crash that occurred at the Bajpe airport on May 22, 2010. Officials and citizens gathered to pray for the eternal peace of the departed souls, marking another poignant anniversary of one of the region’s worst aviation disasters.
The tribute took place at the dedicated memorial park, which was constructed along the road turning from Kulur Bridge toward Tannirbhavi. This specific site holds deep emotional significance, as it serves as the final resting place where 12 unidentified bodies from the crash were respectfully buried. The park stands as a permanent monument to honor the memory of all 158 passengers and crew members who lost their lives in the devastating accident.
Leading the memorial service, Deputy Commissioner Darshan H.V. and City Police Commissioner Sudheer Kumar Reddy laid wreaths and paid their respects at the crash monument. They were joined by several key administrative officials, including Mangaluru Assistant Commissioner Meenakshi Arya, City Corporation Commissioner Ravichandra Nayak, and Pilikula Development Authority Commissioner Dr. Arun Kumar Shetty, all of whom stood in solidarity to remember the victims.
