Mangaluru : The Government of Karnataka has scheduled the ‘National Immunization Day (Pulse Polio)’ drive for Sunday, June 28, 2026, aimed at mandatorily administering polio drops to every child aged between zero and five years. Ritesh Pandey, the Principal Secretary to the Government for Health and Family Welfare, announced that despite India maintaining its polio-free status for over 14 consecutive years, this proactive measure remains absolutely critical. The resurgence risk stems from the persistent active transmission of the Wild Polio Virus in neighboring countries and certain global pockets, prompting this campaign based on stringent recommendations by India’s expert advisory panel.
The health department has outlined a multi-phase execution strategy, starting with the primary vaccination drive at dedicated polio booths on the inaugural day. Following the booth-level operations, health workers will conduct intensive door-to-door visits over the subsequent two to three days to track down and immunize any child who might have missed the initial dose. To ensure no child is left behind, specialized focus and resources will be channeled toward vulnerable sectors, including migrant settlements, high-risk operational zones, and densely populated urban slums.
To guarantee the seamless execution of this state-wide health initiative, the health department has made a strong appeal for inter-departmental synergy and requested the Information and Public Relations Department to aggressively spearhead awareness campaigns. This outreach will leverage mainstream media houses, All India Radio, and various FM channels to broadcast educational jingles and informational programs. In an official release, the Health and Family Welfare Department has urged all citizens, particularly parents, to act responsibly and secure their children’s long-term health by visiting the nearest immunization center.
