Mangaluru: A mega job fair will soon be organized in the city by the state government, announced Dr. Sharan Prakash Patil, the Minister for Skill Development and Medical Education.
He was speaking after inaugurating the new building of the Karnataka German Technical Training Institute (KGTTI) Mangaluru, an initiative of the Department of Skill Development, Entrepreneurship and Livelihood, and the Karnataka German Multi Skill Development Centre (KGMSDC) Society on Saturday. The Minister stated that this grand employment drive would specifically focus on empowering and providing opportunities to the youth from the three coastal districts of Karnataka. Highlighting the success of previous initiatives, he added that more than 30,000 candidates across the state have already secured employment through such government-driven job fairs.
In an effort to nurture a highly skilled and educated workforce, the state government has sanctioned eight new KGTTI centers across Karnataka. These upcoming institutes will introduce specialized training courses in refrigeration and air conditioning technology. At present, the Mangaluru center offers one long-term and 31 short-term skill development courses to help students match global industry standards.
To expand the horizon of skill-based education, the intake capacity in Government Tool Room and Training Centres (GTTC) has been significantly scaled up from 2,500 to 6,000 seats. Additionally, 20 new GTTC centers have been established across the state. Emphasizing the high demand for these courses, Dr. Sharan Prakash noted that GTTC training guarantees 100% employment opportunities, and plans are underway to further scale up the annual admission capacity to 10,000 students in the near future.
Sharing their insights during the event, Members of the Legislative Council (MLC) Ivan D’Souza and Manjunath Bhandari, along with TM Shahid, the Chairman of the Minimum Wages Advisory Board, addressed the gathering.
