Ujire : Amid intensifying political debates within BJP circles regarding alleged cross-voting in the state Legislative Council elections, Belur MLA H.K. Suresh made a high-profile visit to the temple town of Dharmasthala on Tuesday. Demonstrating a massive show of strength and solidarity, the legislator arrived with over three hundred dedicated supporters in a convoy of more than one hundred cars.
Upon reaching the holy town, the MLA first called on the hereditary administrator (Dharmadhikari) of the shrine, Dr. D. Veerendra Heggade, to seek his blessings. Following this meeting, Suresh visited the main temple, offered special prayers to the deity, and made a monetary contribution to the temple hundi. In a display of composure, he stated that he prayed for the well-being of those who had been orchestrating a smear campaign against him.
Standing before the sanctum sanctorum of Lord Manjunatha Swamy, the legislator took a solemn oath to clear his name. He declared that he is a fiercely loyal worker of the BJP who would never betray the party. He swore before the deity that he did not engage in cross-voting during the Legislative Council elections and cast his vote precisely for the candidate officially designated by the party high command. He later told media persons that individuals envious of his political growth were leveling these baseless allegations.
Prior to entering the main temple, the MLA initiated his spiritual vow at the sacred Annappa Swamy Hill, where he broke a coconut and prayed that the divine power grant better sense to his detractors. The elaborate process began earlier in the day with the MLA and his workers performing a ritualistic holy water sprinkling at the Netravati River before proceeding to the temple for the final oath-taking ceremony.
