New Delhi: Whenever Siddaramaiah says he will remain Chief Minister for five years, doubts increase, said former Chief Minister and MP Basavaraj Bommai.
Speaking to the media in Delhi, he said, people have elected them for five years, so they must provide good governance. The other day Siddaramaiah said ‘we (will continue)’, now he is saying ‘I’. What developments have taken place? The more he says it, the more suspicion it creates. Even Congress MLAs and supporters of Deputy CM D.K. Shivakumar are talking about a change in leadership,” he remarked.
Zero Development
The MP said due to internal rifts in the Congress party, the state’s development has come to a standstill and governance has collapsed. Corruption is on the rise. Though the monsoon has begun in the state, farmers are not getting adequate compensation. The state government is financially bankrupt. There are in fights over power. Officials are not receiving clear instructions. They are ruining the prosperous state of Karnataka. The people have already started cursing them. Even with two and a half years remaining, let them provide good governance. If they can govern, let them do so. Otherwise, they should go home.
Midterm polls
The former CM said the BJP, as the opposition, is keeping an eye on everything. They are functioning responsibly by pointing out the failures of the ruling party. If they were to wait till the end of the five-year term to point out faults, it’s already been two years and several blunders have occurred. If this continues, midterm elections may be held in 2026. Looking at the current situation, it’s doubtful this government will survive. The Congress high command appears weak. The government is likely to collapse, and elections could be held within six months of that. This is being discussed even in the media. ” We, with our political experience, also feel that the government lacks confidence,” he said.
No Confusion in BJP
When asked whether there is confusion in the state BJP, he said there is no confusion in party. The appointment of the new state president will be decided by the central leadership. Former minister Sriramulu has only expressed his opinion. This decision lies with the high command. The high command’s decision will be final. The announcement may be made after Prime Minister Narendra Modi returns from abroad. ” I don’t have information on any change in the position of Leader of the Opposition in the Assembly,” he stated.
Seeking Time
When asked about reports that he had sought time to meet party high command leaders, he said, “Yes, I have asked for time but haven’t met them yet. I want to meet Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh to submit a request regarding a military school. I’ve also sought time to meet Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, BJP National President J.P. Nadda, and Union Home Minister Amit Shah,” he explained.
Survey by Independent Body
Regarding the state’s ongoing internal reservation survey, Bommai said the survey is not being conducted properly. Caste is a very sensitive issue. The survey should be conducted by taking everyone into confidence. First, do it online, and if needed, follow up with home visits. If not done properly, it will cause major problems. The community must be taken into confidence. Simply sticking a slip on the door claiming a survey has been done is not the correct way. The survey must be carried out by an independent agency. The current survey process is flawed and will lead to trouble,” he warned.
