Mangaluru: It has recently been alleged by Opposition leader R. Ashok that the anonymous masked person who had claimed that hundreds of bodies have been buried in Dharmasthala village and that the land needs to be dug up is a person who had converted to Christianity, and that a lot of foreign money is coming in for that purpose. He seems to have made his remarks based only on rumours. Is there any proof for his statement? On what basis has he made such a claim? These questions were raised by the Public Relations Officers of the Mangalore Diocese, Rev. Fr. J. B. Saldanha and Roy Castelino.
They further said that a person in a responsible position such as the Leader of the Opposition should not make childish statements without any evidence.
Former Union Minister B. Janardhana Poojary, commenting on the developments in Dharmasthala, has brought in the matter of Christian cemeteries, which is also not correct. In Christian burial grounds, no anonymous or unclaimed bodies are ever buried. Every body interred in a Christian cemetery has proper records. Only the bodies of members of the respective church are buried in church cemeteries. Even the body of a member from another church is not buried there.
We feel that Sri Janardhana Poojary has made such a statement without any knowledge of Christian burial grounds, and he should not have said so. In the rush of making a statement about digging land in Dharmasthala village, unnecessarily dragging in the matter of Christian cemeteries has caused us deep pain.
