Belthangady: A tragic accident occurred on the night of November 16 near Hokkila, on the Kutrottu-T.B. Cross road in Laila village of Belthangady taluk, when an auto-rickshaw overturned after the driver lost control.
The deceased has been identified as Tanvith (12), son of Ganesh, a resident of Kundadka in Navoor village, Belthangady taluk.
The auto-rickshaw, owned by Shashi of Navoor, was carrying passengers heading to the Laksha Deepotsava (Lamp Festival) at Shri Kshetra Dharmasthala when the accident took place.
Tanvith, who was critically injured when the auto overturned, reportedly succumbed to his injuries while being transported to a private hospital. The other five occupants of the auto sustained injuries and have been admitted to a local hospital for treatment.
Belthangady Traffic Police have been alerted to the incident and are currently on the scene conducting an inspection and investigation into the cause of the fatal accident.
