Mangaluru : The 50th lecture in the “Viveka Vani” series, organized by the Swami Vivekananda Study Centre, Mangalore University, was titled “Humanity and Morality are the True Strength of the Modern Engineer”. It was delivered by Swami Tattwamayanandaji, Head of the Vedanta Society of Northern California, San Francisco, on the theme “Vivekananda for the 21st Century Engineer”. The event was hosted at Sahyadri College of Engineering and Management, Adyar, Mangaluru.
Swami Tattwamayanandaji stressed that in today’s technological age, mere intellect is insufficient. He quoted Swami Vivekananda, saying that engineers must “infuse the spirit of humanity and morality into the machines they create”. He emphasized that technology should serve humanity and should never replace it. Swamiji underscored the timeless nature of Swami Vivekananda’s ideas, stating that his message of strength, faith, and service must be a guiding light for today’s students. He remarked that becoming an engineer is not just a profession, but a sacred responsibility toward nation-building.
Swamiji further highlighted that the human being behind every machine must be filled with values. Only then can technology become a blessing instead of a curse. He argued that moral progress is equally essential alongside economic progress. Without this moral foundation, society will inevitably face inequality and instability. Swami Tattwamayanandaji concluded by urging every youth to strive to become a Karma Yogi—one who combines technology with values to build the strong, devoted, and service-minded India that Swami Vivekananda envisioned.
The event saw the presence of Swami Jitakamanandaji, Adhyaksha of Ramakrishna Math, Mangaluru, along with Dr. S. S. Injaganeri, Principal of Sahyadri College of Engineering & Management, and retired army officer Sri Bellal Gopinath Rao. Other attendees included Dr. Prashanth Rao, Dean (Student Welfare Office), Nikhil, Student Welfare Officer, faculty members, and a large number of engineering students.
