Karkala: Four people, including the driver, were injured when a large tree broke and fell onto an auto-rickshaw following unseasonal rain on Wednesday evening. The incident caused significant damage to the vehicle.
The incident occurred when Uday Poojari from Thellar was driving his rickshaw towards Thellar with his family members. A Karmar tree, which belonged to the Raghavendra Mutt premises, broke and initially fell onto an electrical wire. The force caused the electric pole to collapse, bringing the pole and the tree crashing down onto the road and the passing rickshaw.
The rickshaw was severely damaged in the collision. All four occupants, including the driver, sustained injuries and were immediately admitted to both private and government hospitals in Karkala for treatment.
The sudden accident resulted in a traffic jam for some time on the road. Furthermore, due to the tree falling on the electrical wires, the area experienced a power supply interruption until the debris was cleared and repairs were initiated.
