Mangaluru : The Karnataka High Court has passed a significant interim order regarding the rape and cheating case filed against Krishna J. Rao, son of Puttur-based BJP leader Jagannivasa Rao. The accused, who faces allegations of impregnating a young woman after promising to marry her, had approached the court seeking a stay on the investigation and further legal proceedings. While considering the petition, the court granted an interim stay but imposed a strict condition to ensure the welfare of the victim and the child.
A single-judge bench headed by Justice M. Nagaprasanna stipulated that the accused must pay a monthly alimony of ₹75,000 for the maintenance of the victim and the child. The court clarified that the stay on the legal proceedings would remain valid only if this condition is met. According to the order, the petitioner, Krishna J. Rao, must pay this amount either personally or through his parents.
The High Court has further directed the petitioner to pay the first installment within one week, with subsequent payments to be made every month thereafter. The bench emphasized that the relief provided by the court is contingent upon the regular payment of this maintenance. This decision highlights the court’s effort to balance the legal process with the immediate financial needs and rights of the victim and the infant involved in the case.
