Mangaluru : The Kanara Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) successfully hosted a Large Scale Industry Leaders’ Forum at the Mangalore Club on April 29, 2026, featuring Dakshina Kannada Member of Parliament Capt. Brijesh Chowta as the Chief Guest. KCCI President Shri P.B. Ahmed Mudassar welcomed the delegates, highlighting the Chamber’s consistent efforts in infrastructure advocacy and thanking stakeholders for their support in improving regional connectivity. He specifically lauded the MP’s leadership in enhancing the motorability of the Shiradi Ghat on NH-75 and facilitating the transfer of NH-66 stretches to the NHAI for better maintenance.
During the session, strategic priorities were discussed, including the effective utilization of the KCCI Alternative Dispute Resolution Centre for arbitration. Hon. Secretary Shri Jeethan Allen Sequeira noted the significant transformation of NH-75, where travel time to Bengaluru has been reduced to approximately four and a half hours following the completion of the four-laning project up to Nelamangala. This improvement has drastically reduced logistics costs and delays that previously impacted cargo movement at the New Mangalore Port.
The event also featured the felicitation of key infrastructure contributors, including Project Directors Shri Praveen Kumar, Shri Syed Amanullah, and Shri Abdulla Javed Azmi, along with coordination experts from JSW Infrastructure. Chief Guest Capt. Brijesh Chowta updated the forum on several upcoming projects, such as the completion of railway electrification on the Mangaluru-Bengaluru ghat section, the development of a Mangaluru bypass DPR, and plans for a new railway station between Padil and Jokatte. He further discussed his “Back to Ooru” initiative and ongoing efforts to establish an Indian Maritime University campus in the city.
