Mangaluru : An attempt to secretly pass SIM cards to an accused while in police custody was thwarted by vigilant police personnel near the district prison premises in Mangaluru. The incident occurred on July 23 at around 12:30 PM when Konaje station Head Constable Yatish A. and his team were escorting an accused named Rizwan back to the Mangaluru District Prison after producing him in court for a hearing.
During the transit, another accused individual, identified as Hasanabba alias Acchu, approached Rizwan and attempted to hand over two SIM cards to him while he was under escort. However, an alert police constable on duty immediately spotted the suspicious movement and intercepted Hasanabba before the transfer could take place.
Following the swift intervention, police officials lodged an official complaint against Hasanabba at the Bandar Police Station. Based on the report, a case has been registered, and further investigation is currently underway regarding the motive behind attempting to smuggle SIM cards into custody.
