Ujire : The historical annual fair (Kalavadhi Jathre) of Dharmasthala, which commenced on April 14, reached its spiritual peak on Tuesday night with the grand celebration of the Brahma Rathotsava. The chariot festival was held in the majestic presence of the Dharmadhikari, Dr. D. Veerendra Heggade, and was witnessed by thousands of devotees who flocked from various parts of the state to offer their prayers. The week-long festivities featured several traditional rituals, including the Silver Chariot festival during the Lalitodyana Utsava on Saturday, the Kerekatte Utsava on Sunday, and the spectacular Chandramandala and Gaurimaru Katte Utsavas on Monday night.
As part of the temple’s long-standing tradition of charity and food distribution (Anna Daana), massive quantities of essential supplies were allocated during the fair. On Sunday (April 12), for the Mayinadavali ritual, 5,740 kg of white rice, 1,148 liters of coconut oil, and 460 kg of pepper were distributed. These quantities were significantly increased for the main fair on Wednesday (April 15), where 10,242 kg of white rice, 2,048 liters of coconut oil, and over 800 kg of pepper and salt were provided, highlighting the scale of the temple’s service to the gathering pilgrims.
The religious atmosphere at the Kshetra was filled with devotion as the rhythmic chants and traditional music accompanied the various temple chariots. The series of sacred events showcased the rich cultural heritage of the region, drawing a massive crowd for every nightly procession. Following the week of vibrant celebrations and spiritual gatherings, the annual fair is set to conclude on Wednesday night, April 22, with the formal lowering of the temple flag (Dhwaja Avarohana), marking the successful completion of this year’s festivities.
