Udupi : An elderly couple had a miraculous escape after accidentally falling into a deep open well near the Kemmannu Government Pre-University College on Wednesday morning. The rescued individuals have been identified as 65-year-old Gopalakrishna and his 60-year-old wife, Shyamala, both residents of the Kemmannu locality in Udupi district.
The perilous incident unfolded when Shyamala went near the well located close to her residence and accidentally lost her footing, plunging straight into the deep water. Witnessing his wife trapped in the well, an anxious Gopalakrishna courageously leaped in after her in a desperate attempt to keep her afloat and save her life, leaving both of them stranded inside.
Upon receiving urgent information about the crisis, acclaimed social worker Ishwar Malpe along with the personnel from the Fire and Emergency Services rushed to the spot. Acting swiftly, the rescue team deployed ropes and safely pulled the struggling couple out of the well. Having grown extremely weak and breathless during the ordeal, the couple was immediately rushed to the KMC Hospital in Manipal for medical treatment, while the Malpe police visited the site to conduct an investigation.
