Mangaluru : In a major verdict, the 2nd Additional District and Sessions Court in Mangaluru on Thursday sentenced five individuals to life imprisonment along with a fine of ₹76,000 each for the brutal murder of undertrial prisoner and rowdy-sheeter Madoor Yusuf inside the Mangaluru District Sub-Jail. Judge Jagadeesh V. N. pronounced the judgment following a comprehensive trial.
The convicted individuals have been identified as Litesh Poojary from Surinje, Shobharaj from Surathkal, Yuvaraj from Shibaroor, Pradeep from Ulaiyabettu, and Umesh Kombaru from Sullia Balugodu. The gruesome attack occurred on January 28, 2026, when the culprits assaulted Madoor Yusuf with lethal weapons inside the jail premises falling under the Barke Police Station limits. Following the incident, the then Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Tilakchandra conducted a detailed investigation and submitted a chargesheet against ten accused.
While the prosecution successfully proved the charges against five of the accused leading to their conviction, the court acquitted Sharan Poojary, Mahesh Kumar, Kamalaksha Poojary, and Latesh due to a lack of sufficient evidence, while Satish Poojary passed away during the course of the trial. Public Prosecutor Mohan argued the case on behalf of the government during the proceedings.
