Mangaluru : District Health and Family Welfare Officer (DHO) Dr. H.R. Thimmaiah has instructed health officials to conduct regular inspections of diagnostic scanning centers across the district. Speaking at the district-level advisory committee meeting regarding the Pre-Conception and Pre-Natal Diagnostic Techniques (PC-PNDT) Act, 1994, held at the DHO office, he emphasized the need to strictly monitor whether scanning facilities are adhering to statutory regulations and warned that stringent legal action would be initiated against any centers violating the rules.
In an essential directive for maternal health, Dr. Thimmaiah stressed that every pregnant woman must mandatorily possess a ‘Thayi Card’ to ensure proper monitoring and timely access to crucial health services. He advised expectant mothers to carry this card whenever they visit scanning centers for medical examinations. Furthermore, he informed that women who do not yet have a Thayi Card can easily obtain one by approaching their nearest Primary Health Centre (PHC), Urban PHC, Community Health Centre, Taluk Hospital, or by contacting local ASHA and healthcare workers. The meeting was attended by District Advisory Committee (PNDT) President Dr. Amrutha Bhandary, Inspection and Monitoring Committee Member Dr. Sundari, among other members.
