Surathkal : The alumni of National Institute of Technology Karnataka (NITK), Surathkal, have demonstrated their strong bond with their alma mater by fully funding a new Health Care Centre (HCC) Annex on campus. The foundation stone for the facility was laid during the institute’s 67th Foundation Day celebrations on August 6.
The foundation stone laying ceremony was performed by Prof. B. Ravi, Director of NITK, in the presence of chief guest Prof. Venkappayya, Director of IIT Dharwad, along with Deputy Director Prof. Subash C. Yaragal, deans, faculty members, staff, and alumnus donors representing various batches.
Built through a generous collective contribution of ₹1,75,10,554 from alumni, the initiative saw significant support from the 1986 batch, which contributed ₹1,01,76,002, and the 1972 batch, which donated ₹29,00,001, alongside contributions from individual alumni and batch reunions.
The upcoming HCC Annex is designed as a ground-plus-one structure covering approximately 3,100 sq. ft. The ground level will feature an ECG and nebulization room equipped with three beds, a two-bed casualty ward, a sterilization room, two resident doctors’ consultation rooms, and dedicated ambulance parking.
The upper floor will be dedicated to enhanced medical care, housing a four-bed physiotherapy unit, three specialist doctors’ consultation rooms, separate restrooms, and a meeting room to serve the medical needs of the campus community.
