Mangaluru : In response to the relentless downpour across Dakshina Kannada district, the Indian Meteorological Department and the State Natural Disaster Monitoring Centre have issued an orange alert. Taking proactive measures to ensure the safety of students, the District Magistrate and Chairman of the District Disaster Management Authority has declared a holiday for Friday, July 3, 2026. This directive applies strictly to all educational institutions up to the 12th standard, including anganwadis, government, aided, and private primary and high schools, residential schools, and pre-university colleges. The district administration has sternly warned that any institution violating this order will face stringent legal action under the Disaster Management Act of 2005.
To effectively manage the critical weather situation, the local administration has rolled out comprehensive safety guidelines for the public and officials alike. Parents have been strictly advised to monitor their children and prevent them from venturing near low-lying areas, ponds, riversides, or beaches, while tourists and the general public are urged to stay away from all water bodies. Additionally, a strict ban has been imposed on fishing activities, restricting fishermen from entering the sea. All district and taluk-level officials have been ordered to remain at their respective headquarters to actively manage potential emergencies and stay in constant coordination with the central control room. While care centers are being kept in a state of readiness across all taluks, the public can reach out to the toll-free helpline numbers 1077 or 0824-2442590 for immediate assistance regarding any monsoon-related damages or emergencies.
