Udupi : A wave of anxiety and outrage has gripped the local community in Kallattu, a locality coming under the jurisdiction of the Shirva police station in Kaup taluk, following the discovery of a severed cow’s head near a riverbank. It is strongly suspected that miscreants took advantage of the isolated location to dump the animal carcass into the Papanashini River. Upon receiving the information, the Shirva police rushed to the spot, conducted an inspection, and carried out the legal formalities and spot inspection in the presence of officials from the Animal Husbandry Department.
The incident has sparked severe public anger as the remains were found at a site considered deeply sacred by the locals. This specific riverbank is a holy spot used for ritual baths and various religious ceremonies by several prominent local temples, including the ancient Shirva Sri Vishnumurthy Temple. The desecration of such a spiritually significant location has deeply hurt the religious sentiments of the residents.
Protesting the heinous act, activists from the Hindu Jagarana Vedike (HJV) and the Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP) gathered at the scene, demanding a comprehensive and speedy investigation into the matter. The leaders of these organizations have issued a stern warning to the administration, stating that they will launch a massive, widespread agitation if the perpetrators are not tracked down and dealt with stringently. Meanwhile, the Shirva police have registered a case and launched an intensive probe to identify and arrest the culprits.
