Mangaluru: “Delivery of information, communication strategies, and creativity will gain credibility only when truth is upheld by media personnel,” opined Dr. Harsha Halahalli, Registrar of Nitte (Deemed to be University), here on Monday.
He was delivering the presidential address during the orientation program for new students who have joined the Nitte Institute of Communication (NICO).
“Media today is largely assisted by artificial intelligence. Traditional media formats have expanded into broader branches. Social media has become a primary channel to deliver information with greater speed. However, despite these advancements, staying truthful to the society we serve remains paramount,” he said.
“In the past, the delivery of news was very slow. People had to depend on traditional formats such as newspapers and a few television channels. By the time people received the information, it was already outdated. Today, information is delivered in a fraction of a second using social media channels or other digital platforms. However, maintaining credibility has become a key challenge,” he expressed.
N.V. Paulose, Chairman of Global TV, stated that media students carry the immense responsibility of delivering credible content, but they also have the advantage of crafting creative narratives. He advised them to aim to be great storytellers and explore new opportunities.
Dr. Moulya Baladi, Head of the Nitte Institute of Communication, welcomed the guests. Prior to the event, briefing sessions covering hostel and student affairs, sports facilities, student counselling and well-being, the Prevention of Sexual Harassment (POSH), and the examination process were conducted by the staff of NICO and Nitte University.
