Mangaluru : The high-profile breach of promise case involving Puttur resident Krishna J Rao has taken a significant turn toward an amicable resolution. KP Nanjundi, the State President of Akhil Karnataka Vishwakarma Mahasabha, expressed strong optimism during a press conference on Friday that the ongoing legal dispute would reach a favorable conclusion through an upcoming court-ordered mediation process scheduled for June 19.
During the recent hearing before the High Court, PP Hegde, the legal counsel representing the accused Krishna Rao, explicitly stated their willingness to resolve the entire matter through mutual compromise. Acknowledging this development, the High Court directed both the victim’s family and the accused’s family to appear before the designated mediation center on June 19. Following the outcome of this mediation process, the court has scheduled the next formal hearing for June 30, with community leaders expressing confidence that the victim will finally secure justice.
In tandem with the mediation directive, the High Court ordered that an initial sum of Rs 75,000, which had been deposited with the court by the accused for the immediate care of the victim and the child, be disbursed to her immediately. Furthermore, the court mandated that the second installment of the maintenance funds must be deposited within the next four days. Commenting on the social impact of the dispute, Nanjundi noted that while both families have endured considerable distress and public humiliation, there is a strong belief that Krishna J Rao’s family will formally welcome the victim into their household post-settlement. Emphasizing that the priority remains securing a husband for the victim and a father for the child, he revealed that the child’s naming ceremony, which was originally slated for June 17, has been temporarily postponed.
Reflecting on the broader social context of the incident, the Mahasabha chief observed that mistakes were made on both sides. He welcomed the proactive decision of Krishna J Rao’s family to pursue a compromise and urged the younger generation, particularly students, to exercise caution and awareness in their personal lives to prevent such complicated legal and social predicaments in the future. The press briefing was attended by prominent Bengaluru and Udupi chapter office-bearers of the Mahasabha, including Laggere Ravikumar, Janardhana Achar, Lokesh Tittahalli, Jagadish Peenya, Gopal, and Gangadhar Achar.
