Ujire: On the inaugural day of the Laksha Deepotsava, Dr. D. Veerendra Heggade, the Dharmadhikari of Dharmasthala, announced plans for new educational ventures under the auspices of Shree Kshetra Dharmasthala. He declared that a Nursing College will be established in Ujire this year. Furthermore, plans are underway to start an Agriculture College on a 100-acre plot of land. Dr. Heggade confirmed that the process for establishing the Agriculture College will begin immediately upon securing the required land.
Dr. Heggade addressed thousands of pilgrims at the Amritavarshini Sabha Bhavan who had completed the traditional padyatra (pilgrimage on foot) from Ujire to Dharmasthala. He expressed that the love, trust, devotion, and reverence shown to him and the Dharmasthala Kshetra by devotees and the public provide him with immense enthusiasm, inspiration, and renewed energy to continue his service work.
Addressing recent developments, Dr. Heggade acknowledged that due to various factors, unnecessary suspicions and allegations have been raised. However, he stated that with the blessings of Shree Manjunatha Swamy and the unwavering love of the devotees, all allegations have been dispelled, leaving him feeling satisfied and content. He expressed happiness that the padyatra has become a significant tradition of the Laksha Deepotsava.
MLC K. Prathapasimha Nayak, speaking on the occasion, emphasized the importance of preserving identity in modern India through collective activities like bhajans, common meals (bhojana), using the mother tongue, wearing modest attire, and engaging in pious traditions such as pilgrimages and padyatras. He remarked that Dr. Heggade is the ideal role model who provides the necessary inspiration for building a civilized, cultured, and healthy society.
MLA Harish Poonja expressed joy at participating in the padyatra every year and noted the healthy growth in the number of pilgrims each year. He lauded Dr. Heggade as a global model for how a religious institution can work for global welfare with a strong sense of social commitment.
The proceedings began with a special offering of prasada (blessed food) by Administrator Sharathkrishna Padvetnaya to Dr. Heggade, following prayers at the Shree Janardhana Swamy Temple in Ujire. D. Harshendra Kumar, Anil Kumar (CEO of SKDRP), M.P. Srinath (President of D.K. District Kannada Sahitya Parishat), and others were present. The padyatra itself was flagged off in Ujire by Administrator Sharathkrishna Padvetnaya and MLA Harish Poonja.
